Georges Chakra’s Winter collection for 2007/08 is one very different from his successful red carpet Spring/Summer 2007 collection. In this one he works with brings in materials to the collection which he has never used before and which we certainly found surprising.

Paris, France - This collection features Chakra’s long dresses, cut close to the body. The waistline rises still a bit higher than those shown by most houses of the season. But if one returns to his spring collection, one should remember that he did flirt with that detail in one or two other dresses. However, here the higher waistline is more pronounced in the collection and has more of a presence. Some of them are accented with wide, largest-than-life belts.
As always, the couturier uses only the finest materials to put together his collections fit for a princess. In this one, we fine ornamental embroideries, lacquered silks, rich tulles, pleated muslins, shantung, metallic brocades, pleated satins and metallic taffetas. Some of the fabrics are extremely modern. They were used to make wearable, yet very editorial pieces such as Chakra’s “techno plated” bustier dress in electric blue.
Among the pieces fashioned by the creative couturier in this collection, we find his trapeze bustier dress in silver guipure and cream satin. Along with that, one must include his long siren dress. Its bust is covered in black sequins. The skirt portion of the silhouette is in a “wrinkled” chocolate lamé.
All in all one must say that Georges Chakra took several risks that should pay off for him. This collection proved to be not only one of the most imaginative of George’s career, but of the season.
