By Marcellous L. Jones August 2011 Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia - This designer‘s work is not to seek a change in Georgian fashions, but Kalafova rather provides a welcomed retreat from the daywear obsessed ready-to-wear collections presented by most designers during the fashion week for Fall Winter 2011/12. Lots of fluidity and feminine elements are what distinguish this collection most. The designer lightly sprinkles her gowns with crystals, sequins and beading. This creates instantly gowns meant for formal occasion and for red carpet. She bears the shoulders and the arms while placing an accent on the bust. She uses flouncing as a way to created additional movement in the dresses. Though there is no consistent theme detected in the collection, this come as no great problem on this occasion. However, the designer should be careful to construct her future collections around a consistent and cohesive theme, research it and then execute it to perfection.

By Marcellous L. Jones August 2011 Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia - Georgian fashion house Materia provided one of the best highlights of the fashion week. In a season where innovation could be counted on one hand, the house came forth with an exciting collection for Fall Winter 2011/12 that proposes great style choices for women. The house has created a plethora of stylish coats. Most of the silhouettes are set off with printed and scenic hosiery. Large jersey sweater dresses in gray with sleeves of various lengths, panel pleated leggings, and elaborate jackets are just the thinks… Some are paired with free flowing skirts, simple black jersey dresses, raised collars, etc. The trousers are of various cuts and volumes, creating even more democracy of choice for women. The end of the show presents a greatly contrasted look. Black leather trouser with Capri cut, entirely laced down from the waist to the ankles. This look is completed with a puffy coat in a synthetic type of material. The best silhouette is perhaps composed of a long black shirt dressed in silk with asymmetric cut. It is worn with leggings. Very nicely done!!!

By Marcellous L. Jones August 2011 Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia - Keti Chkhikvadze began her collection with large sleeveless cap coats which resemble eggs. It is fascinating to see how she has used a fine micro-sort of laser created fabric which resembles lace. She uses it as the overlay of a black coat. The black fabric is barely visible. Then pied de poule intervenes as the dominant look in two or three silhouettes. She uses it to create daywear dresses. Night quickly comes as the designer creates near sheer black dresses. Sleeveless for the most part, many of them have light vertical draping slightly slanted as they approach the waist. For different nuances, she varies the width of the pleats or soft draping elements. She also uses fine tassels to create a frantic movement. Keti is the only designer in Tbilisi to give fur an important role this season in Tbilisi. She takes fox - both black and silver - alternates them into defining element in her tops and even shorts dresses. Overall she works her craft into a consistent and solid collection.

September5, 2011 Paris , France - Onceupon a time there was man who had all in his grasp that a man could want andneed in order to be happy in his life. Inexplicably unsatisfied, he traded it forsomething new, different, foreign and exotic. Still bent on pleasure seeking,he contemplated trading again in order to get new thrills and sensations. Butthis time the outcome was very different and most unexpected. Unfortunately forthe man, his willingness to gamble against cost him everything. This was all due to the simple fact that he neverlearned to appreciate what he already had or gives thanks for it. Atthis time every year I receive emails and inspired letters from aspiring youngpeople always looking for their first break in fashion, business, the arts, entertainment, sports, etc. I constantly advise them that in life, one must bewilling to sacrifice much in order to go “faster, higher, and harder” or evenin order to catch the moon in his or her hand! I saythat too much is not enough. And one can both have it all and then deserve evenmore. However, one must never neglect to say “Thanks” or “I appreciate that”.Words like this can keep people humble and grounded in what’s important. Inreality, too much of a good thing does not have to be viewed as totallynegative or selfish. With a proper dose of moderation when needed, anyone canpush beyond the expected limits which some societal norms would naturally dictateand impose on individual. But in getting there, proper moderation must at alltimes have its word in the equation. For those who willing to ignore somethingso simple, I say “take careful caution because even good healthy sunshine burnsif you get too much!

     By Marcellous L. Jones
The American born model Jason Fedele began his modeling career at the age of 18. He is most noted for his versatility as a model and for the effortless sensuality and natural sex appeal that he exudes. Since the earliest days of his career, he has travelled the world making public appearances and fulfilling contractual obligations to some of the world’s most exclusive fashion brands.
When Fedele began modeling, the industry was dominated by Europe’s male models. Thanks to the proper management, he quickly came to the attention of Calvin Klein. Through his collaborations with this American juggernaut in the fashion business, he was quickly recognized as a male supermodel. His work with Calvin Klein then led him to other impressive work with Gucci, Versace, Ermenegildo Zegna, etc. However, it was his work for Gucci that saw him being acknowledged as an irresistible force in the industry.
This Fall Winter 1997/1998 Gucci campaign was shot by the superstar photographer Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Carine Roitfeld (now editor-in-chief at the Paris edition of Vogue magazine). In it Jason is seen in sexually provocative poses with other leading models of the day like Kiera. They were dressed in sexy clothes, had dazed, withdrawn looks on their faces and their eyes had been much darkened through black, yet glowing makeup. This campaign is single-handedly accredited with ushering in the dawn of the much controversial “heroin chic” look!
That period also saw Fedele star in Gucci’s Envy fragrance ad campaigns. He went on to collect other campaigns for other globally prestigious brands including Hugo Boss and Moschino. They along with his presence on the runways of Paris, Milan and New York lead to him being considered as one of the most complete models of our times.
Jason Fedele stands tall at nearly 6’2 inches and is a natural blond. His eyes are blue and his waist fluctuates between 31.5 inches and 32 inches. He is American.

By Stephanie Ford Photo Courtesy of AF Vandevorst November 3, 2009 Paris, France – AF Vandevorst takes us on a desert safari for spring/summer 2010. Scorching heat and burning wind were the aesthetics that added to the inspiration for the couple’s latest collection. A desert palette consisting almost completely of neutral and earth tones such as beige, tan, sandy brown, khaki, rust and pastels were not quite reminiscent of the colors we usually think of for spring, yet, realistically captured the essence of what is the traditional seasonal/temporal environment. Soft silky sheer fabrics draped for movement and perhaps designed to dance with the desert wind flowed down the runway in dramatic layers and draping. Volume seemed to be the focus of these designs with blouses and dresses draped over strange squared lace up bodices for many of the pieces. Blouses, button down and lace up tops and trousers tucked into nylon stockings were the main pieces throughout the collection while a jungle style trench coat inspired jumper was a major stand out piece.

By Marcellous L. Jones Photo by Thomas Floyd June 29, 2009 Paris, France - Lanvin has a decidedly more edgy collection for Spring/Summer 2010. Shown at the Salle Wagram next to the Champs-Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe, the show drew the attention of R&B mega-star Usher Raymond. The star granted pre-show interviews in which he commented on his love of Lanvin. Im just here and am excited about being at the show, said he. Its great to be in Paris and to be able to attend the fashion show of a brand that I really like. Lucas Ossendrijver has given attention to an even sharper look for the new season to come. The cuts are done closer to the body. The blazers from suits appear at time with no sleeves. Done in black for the most part, the collection does find some silhouettes with loser fitting pants, high waist bands and pleats in blacks, multi-coloured splash prints and plaids. Ultra light fabrics are too found in such pieces as the trench coat. Shorts, supple pieces for leisure like the plaid tank tops and lose fitting pants banded at the ankles serve notice that Lanvin is also a youthful brand as well as the brand for businessmen. As for accessories we find micro-thin belts, tennis style hats, sandals, pointed shoes colour rich hues. Lots eyewear is also found in the collection. The mixing of classic cuts and sportswear made for a very energetic collection.

By Marcellous L. Jones & Staff December 16, 2008 Paris, France - The holidays traditionally present a moment of difficulty for many shoppers. What to buy? Would he like this ? Or would she like that? These are often times the questions that torture use most. However, TheFashionInsider.com has put together a varied list of winning gift ideas which are bound to please anyone. The most novel product to offer this year has to be the Swimp3. This revolutionary product allows you to listen to your favorite music while get this, swimming!!! This product is an invention of FINIS, Inc., founded by John Mix and Olympic Gold Medalist, Pablo Morales. Originally developed for competitive swimmers, it is also great for anyone who enjoys swimming. With it, you will hit the pool for hours while reshaping your silhouettes. On the pure fashion front, I enthusiastically recommend anything from Paul & Joe (for both men & women), Jeroen van Tuyl (menswear), Emanuel Ungaro (particularly the men’s line), Versace, John Varvatos (either his fashions or his cosmetics products like his dynamite facial scrub), Dirk Bikkembergs (anything from Dirk is a MUST), Moschino, Calvin Klein, Ramona Filip (available in Greece), Miro (available in Greece), Joe Fresh (everything is under $30); and accessories from Barbara Bui. Men’s sportwear brand Celio always has really great things for men. This year, they have cachmere sweaters on sale for only 79 Euros. Sportswear brand Lacoste is also a good pick. Because both companies have so many boutiques and distribution points around the world, they are always accessible to most. As for top fragrances, I still say that anything from Kenzo will do. Fragrances from Issey Miyake, Paco Rabanne and Cartier are also the way to go. Lingerie is always a winner too. Brands like Victoria’s Secret s, Chantal Thomass are always the winning way to go. Otherwise Sloggi (lingerie) and HOM (men’s underwear) offer seductive choices but at far more reasonable prices. For some out of this world excitement and inspirational long nights, check out Dirk Bikkembergs’s golden underwear. They’ll put some excitement into any boring Monday or Tuesday night. The objects design company, Enki, proposes a variety of decorative pieces for both home and office. This company, which specializes in pieces created from ancient techniques dating back to the Persian Empire, creates beautiful objects ranging from vases to hollow bowls and lighting fixtures in elegant black and silver. These pieces are also readily available for online purchase at http://enki-shop.42stores.com . For those with larger budget in mind, art is always a good idea too. That is where experienced art dealer Luc Revillon d’Apreval comes in with his stable of artists and designers who dream up creative furniture pieces and decorative art objects for any environment of taste.
Marcellous L. Jones September 22, 2008 Paris, France - Phillip Bloch is considered to be the leading fashion stylist to Hollywood ’s royalty. For more than a decade, he has built a dream list of celebrity clients whom he has transformed for red carpet appearances at the Oscars and Golden Globes as well as for the covers and pages of such references as In Style , Vogue, US, and Entertainment Weekly . His work is associated with Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, Vivica A. Fox, Jim Carrey, John Travolta, Sandra Bullock, Faye Dunaway, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Bloch, literally a multi-faceted one-man author, actor, writer, fashion guru, and spokesperson, now appears in the new VH1 reality television series, Glam God with Viviva A. Fox . Witty and outspoken, he jokingly admits to “solving world peace, cancer or AIDS”during his spare time all while getting to work with Ms. Fox, his best friend. Just after the show’s première, TheFashionInsider.com managed to catch up to Phillip in New York for an old fashion, tell-all interview. Here are the excerpts from our interview… FI: How long have you and Vivica Fox known each other? PB: We’ve been friends for years. She did a television show, and I styled her for the cover of TV Guide , and we became friends... As it goes, you have your red carpet friends, then you have your Hollywood friends and then you have real friends. Viv and I are real friends. I love her, and can honestly say that we are real friends, and it shows in 'Glam God'. Once in a while, there is a camaraderie that is evident. 'In Sex and the City' , there seemed to be that among the actress… FI: LOL!!! Yeah, but there wasn’t any camaraderie among the actresses in Sex and the City ! PB: LOL!!! But with Viv and me, there is a genuine friendship, and it comes off. We walk, talk and think a like…. We went to lunch together on Saturday. Then we went out a few hours later for drinks. FI: How did the idea come about to do this show? PB: Viv was already having meetings with VH1. I’d been with VH1 for years doing commentating. I was told that she was clear from the beginning that she wanted to work with me. She did all of the development with 51 Minds… FI: What were the challenges you faced in making the show come together? PB: I think that there was timing. Viv’s an actress. 51 has never done fashion before. It went on forever. It started a year ago. We did the pilot in December (2007). It got picked up in February. Then there was the question of how I would fit into the show? Would I be a host or a judge or would I be a mentor? Everyone has opinions as to how things should be. But we all made it work… Every couple of years some really great idea for television comes along to shake up the industry. You know there was like Desperate Housewives and then Ugly Betty . And at 51 Minds, they have really done it with 'Glam God' . FI: What makes “Glam God” so unique in a television industry already so dominated today by reality programs: PB : There are not tons of them out there on fashion. There’s Project Runway and America’s Next Tom Model . People love fashion. It’s always been a challenge to get to work in fashion. Viv’s a movie star doing television. Lots of stars are doing it. There’s Kyra Sedgwick and Holly Hunter. It’s fun. 'Project Runway' and 'America’s Next Top Model' are series. But we are really fun. And it’s got Viv and me! FI: Any early front runners yet for the ultimate title? PB: Tiger Lily is phenomenal. She is a force! She wins nearly every challenge. I love Chris too. Someone I like for his intensity. FI: What can you tell us about the contestants so far? PB: The kids on the show are very different. When I started in the business as a stylist, no one was famous. Kevin O’Coin was really the first ‘behind the scenes’ person to become publicly known. People like Rachel Zoe and Pat McGrath worked to become known. We did about 10 years and a half to get to where we are. These kids are like, ‘I’m here to be in front of the camera’… to build their brand… You know, I’m Phillip ‘fucking’ Bloch!!! I never said those things until like a year ago. It was offensive to me. They made it clear that they were about the show and not the business of styling. One day, Viv and I looked at each and were like, ‘Who do the people think they are?’ At day one point I had a meltdown. I was like the show is called Glam God with Vivica A. Fox ! It’s not Glam God with ‘Phillip Bloch or any of you!’ Some of them were just way too much. One of them even threw a party, but he was eliminated early on! FI: So-called “really TV” is at times greatly scripted and is often not a true measurement of what it takes to make it in certain industries. How did Glad God” get around that? PB: I love that you ask that question. We were not scripted. We had to deliver challenge points so that everyone would understand the challenges and in the same way. We would all like be in the car together when some of them were given to us. We would take time to put things in our own words so that it would not be really scripted. FI: How did you manage to keep your own focus with all of the personalities about? PB: Viv and I had a long conversation. I think that over the years, I have never put myself before any of my clients. Then I did my TV show afterwards. I think that these kids need to learn that even after this show is over and that after a winner has been chosen, much learning about being a real stylist will still remain. FI: Is it hard watching yourself on television or reading about yourself? PB: I had to be clear with myself about why I am doing it. Marsha Nelson and Salma Hayek helped me to understand those things early on. I had smart people to help me learn how to read about myself. But with that, I still say that it’s important to not believe in your own hype. FI: As one of Hollywood’s most famed fashion stylists of the past decade and of our day, you had to work really hard to get there. How can your own experiences benefit aspiring stylists who seek to carve out a career in the industry? PB: It’s a little different today. When I started, Lauren Scott was already working in Hollywood before me. I was the one in the right place, at the right time and with the right personality. No one will ever replace Kevin or me. People are like, ‘I’m going to replace you’. I’m like no you’re not. We have different references… It is different today, and you will do it your way. I give them tips of the trade. You give love and knowledge. You hope they will do more and with dignity. It’s not about the fame. It’s about the work. When I was a model, I modelled for [Jean-Paul] Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, etc. I didn’t do it to be famous. I did it for the work. FI: Are there any plans in the works to film part of “Glam God” in Paris ? PB: It’s funny that you mention it. I said that we should go to Paris and to New York . I think that would be great. We could come up with a great series of challenges… FI: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to break into the industry? PB: Volunteer to work for free! Do internships! You’ve got to earn your way up in this business. People ask me all the time for things as if I can wave a magic wand… ‘Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he will never be hungry again. ’ I love this expression... I taught myself. Also, being a stylist you have to have a personality. Stars have to want to spend time with you. The reality is that 90% of stylists all go to the same showrooms and see the same things. The difference is personality… At times, a stylist is like the court jester but with good taste. He’s there to entertain, make everyone happy and look good. LOL!!!
