Greetings all. In this edition, we are happy to bring you a progress report from the runways of the Hellenic Fashion week in Athens , Greece and from New York .
Officially known as the Diners Athens Collections in Style, this relatively new fashion week is quickly gaining steam and international renown. The Spring/Summer 2008 edition featured fashion shows from more than 40 designers and fashion houses from around Greece , Cyprus and Georgia . The organizers from the Hellenic Fashion Designers Association (HFDA) presented American fashion star, John Varvatos, with a special award. Varvatos officially opened fashion week with an open-air showing of his Spring/Summer 2008 collection. This show took place under a light rainfall that “Alexander McQueen would kill for” if he could get it on command at one of his shows.
This sixth edition of fashion week in Athens must also be seen as a true triumph for all but also as a testament to the professionalism and the vision of HFDA President, Daphné Valente and to the dedication of the city of Athens and to all the sponsors who help to make fashion week in Athens one of the BEST ORGANIZED and MOST PLEASANT to attend when compared to those in other established fashion capitals like London, New York, Paris and Milan. What’s even better is that the designers are not shy to ask for real critiques and constructive criticisms, which will help them to better develop their brands for international markets. The HFDA operates fashion week like a finely tuned machine.
