Greetings All,
Both teams from Fashion Insider TV and www.TheFashionInsider.com went to Athens, Greece where we covered for the first time the Hellenic Fashion Week. And what we found, you will surely like.
Already in its fifth season, the Hellenic Fashion Week (HFW) features some of the most talented Greek designers as well as some extremely promising guest designers from Cyprus and France. The shows took place in 2 large halls at the Zappeion and in an adjacent gigantic tent. There was also an exhibition hall setup which allowed designers and other labels not doing fashion shows to also have an onsite place to meet with journalists and buyers.
The HFW had an amazing organisation. Practically everything went off without a single flaw. Of the collections capturing my attention, I have to mention the Ramona Filip, founder & artistic designer of the Cypriot fashion house, Ramon Filip; Erifilli Atelier by Erifilli Nikolopoulou and finally Yiannos Xenis. To me these three represent what is most typical, and at the same time, what is promising of any good fashion week.
The Ramon Filip collection was by far the most sophisticated of all the collections that I saw. When you see Ramona, it’s easy to understand as she herself is the modern embodiment of the 1960’s elegance championed by former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy. That elegance and sophistication are translated into the beautiful creations of Ramon Filip.
Though not one of the most exciting shows on the HFW calendar, Erifilli Atelier presented a collection rich in depth and in creativity. Beautiful silks, handiwork and technique reveal that her collection was one of the most intricate and thoroughly researched. Though maybe not particularly best suited for the runway, her collection is practically without reproach.
Xenis Yiannos is the “bling” artist of HFW. Before the show, he gave me a personal tour of his collection. I found beautifully done individual pieces and creative handwork. However, the error that he made during his fashion show was piling a bling top with a bling bottom or with bling-bling jewellery. It created the overkill effect of having too many good things, too fast and all at the same time. His presentation has the same error that so many other designers make. However, this is not at all a fatal error. ...
