Atlanta , Georgia ( USA ) - Toni Acey is one of the most sought after makeup artists in the industry. With her signature airbrush technique, Toni’s artistry has graced the faces of many celebrities such as Yolanda Adams, Lisa Raye McCoy and Meagan Good just to name a few. People wait weeks in advance just to have their face “Aced.” This Corporate Diva turned makeup artist provides services for fashion shows, advertising, record labels, radio, television, video and film. She holds “hands on” air brushing workshops and has an instructional DVD slated for release in 2011. It doesn’t stop there; Toni also has a new jewelry line called “Purple Flower Jewels,” which consists of elegant jewelry pieces hand-crafted by Toni herself. In addition, Toni was selected to be the Beauty Expert on the 3rd season of “My Black is Beautiful,” which will air on BET November 7, 2010. Toni will appear on all six episodes working with the celebrity style team. During the taping of “Black Girls Rock", she had the opportunity to “Ace” Kelly Price, Kim Whitley, and Ruby Dee. TheFashionInsider.com Magazine caught up with Toni for a chat on her successes.
TFI: What made you decide to leave corporate America to pursue a full time career as a makeup artist?
Toni: I would always get requests from friends and family to do their makeup all the time. They kept telling me that I should be doing this full time. After hearing it so many times, I thought if I had a dollar for every time someone said ‘Who did your makeup?’ I would be rich, (laughing). So maybe I should step out there and do this as a career.
TFI: You’re one of the most sought after makeup artists in the industry right now. When did your big break come?
Toni: I guess that depends on what you consider being the big break. To me I’m still waiting on it. (laughing) I’ve been so blessed to be able to work with so many recording artists, actors, and actresses in the industry. To me my big break was the day when someone said they would change their schedule to meet mine. To get a call from a record label, its kind of one of those things where you’re like is this for real, how did you get my number? (laughing) When they start checking you out I guess you can consider that the big break. ...
