October 14, 2006

On the eve of Paris’s Spring/Summer 2007 collections, book publisher Assouline launched the newest edition to its body of work on French fashion figures.

Written by authour Anne Kraatz, Solstiss, The Seduction of Lace, is the new book recounting the rich history and contributions of the Solstiss lace house to the world of fashion and haute couture.

Solstiss’s history goes back as far as 1870 (Caudry). The current day Solstiss brand was created in 1974 by four families from Caudry, who specialized in lace making. Today, Sostiss is the worldwide leader in lace manufacturing. It is found in collections for Elie Saab, Dior, Lacroix, Balenciaga, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rochas, Hermès, John Galliano, Georges Chakra, etc. Jean Paul Gaultier mode recently used it in his creations for Madonna’s word tour.

The book launch took place at Baccarat’s headquarters in the 16th arrondissement in Paris, in October 2006. Among the pieces on display included models created in Solstiss lace by such designers as Elie Saab.

Currently on sale in France, the book will be released in the United States in January 2007, and will sell at around $20.
