Paris , France – It is at the Ecole de Beaux Arts where Junko Shimada presented her new collection for Spring/Summer 2009. Imbued with a sense of purpose, this collection is light and innovative.

Among the most interesting pieces from the collection, we find a pair of slimming pants in transparent plastic and which are trimmed in white. Then we find her work with black and white horizontal stripes on her short dresses. That preceded the excitement which came about in the form of her ruffled dresses. The air catching structures on these dresses bring a useful volume into the mix.

While some pieces such as the silk tunics presented in the very beginning of the show appear to have little to do with what we associate to Junko Shimada, the majority of the collection remains “very Junko” in spirit. To this one must cite the short mini dresses with bubble shapes and the dresses with insane amounts of volumes in the lower body of the dresses and at times in the sleeves of other dresses. These dresses are in white and generally bear the leitmotif prints of undersea life. Overall; this collection is creative, modern, fun and very Junko Shimada.
