Paris, France - Today First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy of France will deliver a televised speech at a charity luncheon organised and hosted by Sarah Brown, the wife of the British prime minister, Gordon Brown.

Mme. Sarkozy, who is also the guest of honour at the event will be speaking in order to raise public awareness around the White Ribbon Alliance, which works to reduce mortality rates among mothers at child birth. The Alliance was founded in 1999 and Mrs. Brown is a member.

The luncheon will take place at Lancaster House. It will mark the first televised speech of either Mrs. Brown or Madame Sarkozy since their respective husbands came to power in the UK and in France.

Though she is of Italian birth and grew up in France, the French First Lady is fluent in several languages including English. She honed her language skills during her years as one of the world’s most famous supermodels. Her speech today will be delivered in English.
