Paris , France – It is a beautiful Friday morning in Paris , and Chanel has just presented its new (and perennially highly anticipated) collection. Against a backdrop of a simply conceived, yet elaborately decorated merry-go-round, music blared across the Grand Palais where the show took place as it ushered in the first model, who took the runway in a grey woolen tweed suit. The knockout suit is accessorized with black and flesh bi-colored nylon leggings. And with them, we witness the first recurring leitmotif of the house’s new collection for Fall/Winter 2008.
Early in the show, one model appeared in a grey knit with its matching hat also in knit. The top portion of the dress is vertically woven while the bottom half is horizontally knitted. Then a gorgeous look, typical of the understated side to the house’s glamour, came forth. It is composed of a long tweed skirt in beige and white square plaids. It is paired off with a mohair and cashmere sweater top with a large rolled collar.
As for accessories, Karl Lagerfeld explained to Fashion Insider TV in post-show interview, “There are few accessories this time. But this is deliberate. This is what we wanted to do this time.” However, be sure to look out for Chanel’s stockings to be a contender among the top selling accessories of the season. Mostly bi-color, they bring a certain aspect of undeniable length to the legs. The pumps are very high with the heels being large and near column-like in appearance.
Of the remarkable looks from Chanel this season, the most impressive are perhaps those done in a transparent plastic and cover in patent black motifs. A suit, then a blazer and then a jacket over a peach-flesh colored dress are perhaps the most attractive and eye-catching looks from the collection.
