Atlanta, USA - Our Atlanta bureau chief, Karen Larde, managed to catch up the celebrity fashion stylist Patrick Cooper. This little tête-à-tête between Karen and Patrick took place between his frequent trips to New York and to Los Angeles where he goes for styling his privileged clientele and where he finds inspiration. The following are excerpts from their Q& A session.
Karen: Why did you decide to enter a career in fashion styling?
Patrick: "It is something that I’ve done my whole life…I had an eye for it and people were telling me ‘if you can do this for you I would love for you to do it for me’".
Karen: Favorite place to be right now?
Patrick: "Sitting at home looking at my garden…. Having to run around can be drainin. It’s nice to be alone and enjoy the fruits of my labor".
Karen: The one thing you can not live without?
Patrick: "I like being surrounded by good friends and my 1974 vintage Rolex watch".
Karen: Who are some of your famous clients?
Patrick: "I’ve done celebrities like Fantasia, T.I. and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. I’ve also worked with the BET Awards, Essence Magazine, Movie and a Makeover, Atlanta Magazine, Jezebel Magazine and Ocean Drive Magazine as well ".
Karen: What is your observation of Atlanta’s fashion climate?
Patrick: "Atlanta has grown tremendously, however, Atlanta is not known for fashion and major designers aren’t local. There is a lot of money here and lots of room for more fabulousness".
Karen: Your inner voice tells you to:
Patrick: "Constantly do me and to not focus on my weaknesses but to focus on my strengths….just to do my own thing and march to my own drum".
Karen: A fashion faux pas:
Patrick: "Black pantyhose and red pumps"
