NEW YORK, NY. May 15, 2007 - Shenandoah University in Virginia has honored fashion designer Stephen Burrows with its business school's 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The prestigious Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business Entrepreneur of the Year Award is presented every year to an individual whose life is marked by entrepreneurial success. Previous recipients include Ted Turner.

Accepting the award with a lecture that the university says has fostered further siscussion of his ideas and philosophy of entrepreneurship, Burrows urged those in attendance to find the niche for what it is they want to do, and to remember that whatever their passion, it would also require an understanding of business.

"Stephen Burrows represents for us the true meaning of an entrepreneur – one who stays focused on his goals and passion and remains true to his dream in the face of any challenge. His resounding message to the students was, 'never give up,'" said Dr. Miles Davis, associate professor of management and director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship.

"Stephen was deeply touched by this award," said Burrows' Managing Director, John Robert Miller. "The continuing growth of Stephen Burrows World is evidenced in the rise of "SHOP BURROWS" on eBay, his expansion in European markets since the launch of the collection, "s" by Burrows on Home Shopping Europe, surpassing HSE's expectations and the "everyday girl collection," the secondary line of dresses under his signature label, 'stephen burrows world' that has created yet another market as a more accessible
collection."

Last year the CFDA honored Burrows in recognition of his distinctive artistry and achievements as a fashion designer awarding him the Board of Director's Special Tribute. Also credited as the first African-American designer to achieve international acclaim with his signature palate of vibrant colors and a unique approach to cut and modern silhouettes, Burrows has been recognized by the American Fashion Industry with a star on New York City's Fashion Walk of Fame.
